PF-UPND Pact - Cohabiting

I needed shock absorbers to redeem my points of shock I got when reading Wynter Kabimba (The Post September 23, 2010) say that there never was a Memorandum of Understanding between PF and UPND in forming the Pact, but rather a communiqué. I feel the people of Zambia have been fooled.

According to Wikipedia, a memorandum of understanding (MoU), “is a document describing a bilateral or multilateral agreement between parties. It expresses a convergence of will between the parties, indicating an intended common line of action… “

And a communiqué as defined by GlobalEd 2 Project – Teacher Training Institute, “is a short, one or two paragraph message, summarizing an issue with a purpose of documenting (as a starting point for further discussion and for future reference) a particular position such as in discussions of governmental or private international organizations”.

And if this Pact is founded on the sandy foundation of a communiqué, then this hullabaloo orbiting their minds will never end, up to the last day of going to the polls. Further discussions of who becomes the Pact leader are either being avoided or not part of their agenda. But how then do you rule if your Party to contest has no aspirant for the Presidential seat?

Honesty and sincerity are the virtues that make political democrats in the developed world tick in their political lives. Swallowing one’s uncalled for pride further gives back rewards of Statesmanship. Unfortunately, these are the virtues our politicians throw away albeit their knowing how much they can gain by practicing them.

The PF-UPND Pact’s reasoning over last few months have been that of dog-eat-dog. Pure jungle law at its work; either you eat first, or you are eaten. Statements that have been coming from the UPND over elections and PF’s replies to these statements have been showing us in crystal clear avalanches that there is no understanding between the two Parties. It’s a soccer match played in the middle of a wave wrecked sea.

Power is blinding them, and we know as said by some people before, ambitiously loving power blinds absolutely. Wynter Kabimba’s declaration that Mr. Hakainde Hichilema will never get the Pact presidency is a serious daring that is widening the cracks in the Pact. And if it’s true as Mr. Sata says that UPND is using Joe Kalusa to have a go at PF senior members, then the two Parties are just wasting their time being together. This isn't a marriage but pure cohabiting.
